Root canal treatment is performed when the dental pulp (nerve and inner tissue of the tooth) is damaged by advanced caries, infection, or trauma. The goal is to clean, disinfect, and hermetically seal the canals, preserving the tooth and its function.
How is treatment performed?
- Thorough diagnosis - Evaluation is done with X-rays or 3D imaging to analyze the shape of the canals and the degree of infection.
- Removal of infected tissue - The tooth is opened and the damaged pulp is cleaned with specialized instruments.
- Disinfection of canals - Deep cleaning and irrigation of canals is performed to eliminate bacteria.
- Filling and hermetic sealing - A biocompatible material is placed in the canals to prevent reinfection.
- Tooth restoration - Depending on the damage, the tooth is strengthened with filling, inlay/onlay, or crown for long-term stability.
